Dragon’s blood resin is derived from the dried sap of a number of different tree species. Dragon’s blood resin is most known for its use as an incense. The dried resin forms hard, glossy, brittle “red rocks”. The resin becomes sticky when moistened and is soluble in alcohol. It has been used as a dye or varnish. Externally, it is applied to heal wounds and stop bleeding. In witchcraft, dragon’s blood incense is used to call forth the influence and energies of Mars and the element of fire, particularly in spells for protection.
